As the favorites, it was no great surprise that the Shell Va’a team had about a one minute lead on Team OPT. Their strategy paid off as it turned out more than their sheer speed. They took a sightly different approach to the island and had a more favorable current off the reef. After 4 hours, they won by only about one minute.
