We dodged the fishing pangas and their unmarked lines all night crossing the Golf of Fonseca where El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua all meet. We arrived at this safe water mark about 1/2 mile outside the river entrance to Puesta del Sol after an all night passage from Bahia del Sol the afternoon before.

It was very nice that the Port Captain (right) and immigration officers met us right at the dock as they did in El Salvador. This gal was one of the very few female Port Captains in all of Central America.

Here is Beach House at the dock. Very similar to Bahia del Sol, but more expensive and far less activity. Nicaragua for us as it turned out was just a stop over en route to Costa Rica.

The hotel was lovely, but no one seemed to be staying here. This marina is quite a distance from the population centers in Nicaragua. Owned by a Nicaraguan who had lived in the US, we hope he does well here with the “build it and they will come” entreprenurial spirit he obviously has.

Views of the nice, but small marina on the river estuary. Almost all these boats were transients headed north or south.

The pool was warm and lovely. Cindy and I got in a swim.

Sport fishing is big here too. Tornements are apparently held with some regularity. Catch and Release seems to have caught on in Central America.

The channel was very well marked here. The rivers’ silt moves from time to time so the buoys have to be relocated.

After what turned out to be a very expensive few days, we were “on the road again”, next stop Costa Rica, another overnight sail.

Though the waves at this river entrance were bigger than Bahia del Sol, the channel was deeply dredged and didn’t require any assistance to enter or exit other than careful navigation.

Here Cindy keeps a good watch for any difficulties as we exit the river estuary. Later that night, I discovered broken bolts on both engines “power take offs” for our large 24 volt alternators. The “boat projects in exotic locations” story was about to continue……this time in Costa Rica.
