With the wide angle lens, you get the whole experience in one shot. You can see the ocean on the far right. It is here where once/year, the tribes sent their best climber/swimmer down the face of Orongo, into the sea to the middle of the three motu’s “Motu iti”. The hardy soul who retrieved the first terns egg and returned was treated as a local god. The tribe he represented was then in charge of all the clans for the year. Many of the competitors likely didn’t survive this game as the climb up and down the cliff alone would kill most.
