Anakena Beach

Louise and Cindy walk along this beautiful beach. About 2-400 years after Hotu Matua’s landing, a second migration known as the “short ears” (or perhaps “short ones”) landed on Rapa Nui. They were allowed to stay but essentially as slaves. They were the builders of many if not all of the Moai ordered by the long ears. In exchange for their labor, they were given food. Eventually it is believed that the short ears rose up against their oppressors and began the wars which toppled the Moai and decimated the population.
