Te pito kura

The navel of the world. The people of Rapa Nui felt that there was no other land anywhere else on earth. That it had all sunk. This was near the site where the first island chief landed and the locals believed it was the center or “navel” of the world. It is highly magnetic and severe magnetic disturbances have been noted by military aircraft in the area due to the great amount of iron and other magnetic material of the islands volcanic past.
