Once the Moai were at their desired location, in some cases 7 miles away from the quarry, it is believed they were levered by palm trees and had ever growing rock piles placed under them until they could be raised. Teams of 15-20 people took on average 1 1/2 to 2 years to use stone tools to create each Moai. How long did it take to move them? Anyone’s guess.
