Orongo Inca Style Carving

The people of Polynesia basically didn’t carve stone, they carved wood. The ancient Marquesians eventually admitted to the Europeans that they had no idea who made the stone carvings there and just “assumed” it was their ancestors, but had no oral tradition about it. The more modern Marquesians didn’t carve stone either.
So when archeologists discovered this group of stones near Orongo, they were quite amazed and stricken at how similar they looked to those done in South America by the Inca’s.
