At about 2-4 years old, the tortise get over a foot long and can fend for themselves. Prior to that, dogs, rats, even some birds can kill them. This guy’s got about a year to go before they let him out of his breeding pen. I’m shooting this through a protective fence. He’s about 10 inches long.
